The Cannonball name originates from the die-hard adventurer Erwin George ‘Cannonball’ Baker, the greatest cross-country record breaker of them all, who set 143 American distance records, including a 53½ hour coast-to-coast solo drive averaging over 50 mph in 1933!
Inspired by our old friend Erwin, the grandfather of all Cannonballers, and in defiance of a newly introduced 55 mph speed limit, rebellious journalist Brock Yates launched the ‘Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash‘ aka The Cannonball Run
This was the theme of the famous 1981 film ‘The Cannonball Run’ featuring Burt Reynolds and Roger Moore, which paid homage to those early 1970’s real-life Cannonball Runs across the USA
Cannonball Run Europe was formed as an event in 2002 with the spirit of the original outlaw runs at its heart and has been going out with the same sense of adventure to drive the roads of Continental Europe every summer since
CBRE 2018 was our 17th year of Cannonball Runs in Europe
